Washington Post executive editor Sally Buzbee steps down

Sally Buzbee, the executive editor of The Washington Post, is stepping down from her role after leading the newspaper for three tumultuous years, the newspaper announced late Sunday.

“Sally is an incredible leader and a supremely talented media executive who will be sorely missed. I wish her all the best going forward,” William Lewis, chief executive and publisher of The Washington Post said in a statement.

Buzbee will be immediately replaced by Matt Murray, former editor in chief of The Wall Street Journal, until the November election.

At that time, Robert Winnett, deputy editor of The Telegraph Media Group, will take over as editor of the newspaper’s core coverage areas. Murray will then oversee a separate “third newsroom” dedicated to service and social media journalism.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
