Cerence Files Patent-Infringement Lawsuit Against Samsung Electronics

Cerence, which builds automotive cognitive assistance solutions, filed a patent-infringement lawsuit against Samsung Electronics Co. and Samsung Electronics America.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, covers certain Cerence technologies including voice recognition, handwriting recognition and wake-up words, the company said.

“This lawsuit against Samsung is necessary to protect significant R&D and other investments,” said Jennifer Salinas, Cerence senior vice president and general counsel.

Samsung didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
